Q&A

Q: I'm really enjoying that Netflix show "Dead to Me," particularly the actress who plays Judy. Can you tell me what else she's done?

I can barely scratch the surface.

We have been fortunate to watch Linda Cardellini grow up before our eyes, but that means she has an extensive list of roles on her resume, both in teen movies and shows and now in much more grown-up fare.

Highlights from her younger period include playing Velma in the live-action "Scooby-Doo" movies in 2002 and 2004, and her breakout role as Heather in the 1997 cult hit "Good Burger."

The midpoint in her transition to adult roles was her long-running gig as Samantha Taggart in the final six years of the classic medical drama "ER," from 2003 to 2009.

Her recent career has been been largely filled with playing long-suffering-wife roles, both for laughs and for tears. See, for example, her spots in the Oscar-winning 2018 film "Green Book," the money-making Avengers movies (she played Hawkeye's wife in the most recent two), and the overlooked crowd-pleasers "Daddy's Home" (2015) and "Daddy's Home Two" (2017).

Those latter airy comedies may have been built around the buddy-chemistry between leads Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, but ScreenRant.com said that chemistry was only effective "due to Linda's appearance as the exasperated wife caught between them."
