Cake! What kid doesn't love cake? For that matter, what kind of adult doesn't love it, too?

Food Network's "Cake Wars" is back and sweeter than ever. Last week's premiere saw the contestants baking Star Wars-themed confections, and in this week's episode -- airing Monday, Jan. 18 -- they're getting their Seuss on.

To celebrate "What Pet Should I Get," the Dr. Seuss children's book posthumously released last year, four expert bakers compete to craft a cake worthy of being the center of a Dr. Seuss-themed book release party.

Naturally, these cakes aren't the kind of celebratory desserts that just anyone can whip up in their oven at home. No, "Cake Wars" features true masters of the craft, and these cakes definitely double as works of art -- literally, they're almost too good-looking to eat!

Returning as host this season is actor Jonathan Bennett ("Mean Girls," 2004), while the judging panel consists of two master pasty chefs: Ron Ben-Israel ("Sweet Genius") and Waylynn Lucas, along with a special guest judge.

With each week featuring two race-against-the-clock challenges that test both the skill and creativity of the contestants, the competition is grueling -- but the rewards are worth it. Not only does the winner get their creations featured at a special event, but the sweet-toothed master baker also goes home with an extra sweet $10,000.

Other episodes this season will feature the upcoming film "Kung Fu Panda 3," the video game phenomenon "Minecraft," comic book icon "Archie," the timeless children's story "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and the classic "Alice in Wonderland," to name just a few of the many themes heading down the pipe.

Best of all for us home bakers watching from our living rooms, though, is that Food Network shares the recipes of the winning cakes at FoodNetwork.com/CakeWars. We can't all be master bakers, but at least we can pretend, right?

"Cake Wars'" newest season just got underway, and catch the Dr. Seuss-themed episode Monday, Jan. 18, when it airs on Food Network.
