Christmas means a lot of things to a lot of people. I'm sure that if you were to really dig into what the holiday means to the folks around you, you'd find that everyone has their own special memories, traditions and feelings about it.

Most people, though, would probably put family near the top of that list. Even if your extended family drives you a little bit crazy (inlaws, am I right?), the holiday season is the time of year to put all of that aside and gather for togetherness, gift giving and, perhaps most of all, great food.

Rev Run is no different. The hip-hop artist (his real name is Joseph Simmons), practicing minister and father of seven has been showing just how much of a family man he is in "Rev Run's Sunday Suppers" on the Cooking Channel, and now he and his family are bringing the holidays to life in their new Christmas special. "Rev Run's Happy Holidays" airs Sunday, Dec. 14, on the Cooking Channel, granting us a peek into the family's holiday traditions -- and, like all families, they have a lot of them.

For the Simmons family, Christmas isn't just a day or two -- it's a week-long celebration, filled with family and food. As per their tradition, they kick off the holiday festivities with a big family brunch, featuring their "Breakfast Before Casserole." And what could be more festive than gingerbread cookies? True to form, though, the Simmons family doesn't just settle for the same old anthropomorphic gingerbread figures: these are "Ninjabread Men," which could probably bring a smile to even the surliest Grinch's face.

And really, that's what the food in the Simmons household is all about: enjoying the holidays with good food and better company. Whether it's Justine's succulent "Cheesy Buttermilk Garlic Mash," Rev's "Always on Time Prime Rib" or his "Rich and Creamy Hot Cocoa," the food really exists to bring everyone closer.

Family, togetherness and food. They're the perfect recipe for a perfect holiday season, and the Simmons family has been whipping up that dish for a long time. Hunker down and enjoy some holiday deliciousness when "Rev Run's Happy Holidays" airs Sunday, Dec. 14, on the Cooking Channel.
