"Durham County's" Michelle Forbes first came to viewers' attention in a relatively (by soap standards anyway) short run on "Guiding Light," playing Dr. Sonni Wells.
But two years after leaving that show she popped up again as Ensign Ro Laren on the long-running "Star Trek: The Next Generation," joining that series as a regular in its fourth season in 1991.
She's since made a pretty solid career out of joining shows mid-run.
She did the same thing with the hugely popular cable series "True Blood," joining that show in its second season. In it she played vampire Maryann Forrester, a vampire who takes Tara under her wing and eventually emerges as the main antagonist of the season.
That show apparently gave her a taste for darker roles, as around the same time she wrapped that season she appeared on the Canadian-made series "Durham County," again joining for its second season.
That show tells of a detective obsessively hunting a serial killer, and Forbes stars as an emotionally troubled forensic psychiatrist.
