That's a pretty big question, since there are so many Disney princesses, and the rules for getting into the surprisingly exclusive club are somewhat unclear.

To start with, you don't have to be royalty. Mulan, from the 1998 animated film of the same name, is not part of a royal family, but is officially a Disney princess. Her voice was performed by Ming-Na Wen, who is best known now as Agent May from the ABC series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

What is clear is that it's not just a matter of being a female protagonist in a Disney movie. There are official coronations at Disney World, and until you are crowned, you are not a princess.

The most recently crowned princess was Merida from 2012's "Brave," who only received her coronation a year after her film's release. Merida was voiced by Kelly Macdonald, who previously starred in "No Country for Old Men" (2007), "Trainspotting" (1996), HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and other roles unbefitting of a princess.

Given that she was the most recent, that leaves out the two sisters of 2013's phenomenal hit "Frozen." This means Kristen Bell, the former "Veronica Mars" star who voiced Anna, and Idina Menzel, the Broadway star and former "Glee" actress who voiced Elsa, will have to wait for their crowns.

The rules of Disney royalty also leave a number of big-name actress out of the "princess" fold, such as Demi Moore, who voiced Esmeralda in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1996), and Neve Campbell, star of the "Scream" films, who voiced Kiara in "The Lion King 2" (1998).
