It's safe to say at this point (he's 30 now) that Tyler James Williams is one of those rare actors who transitioned pretty smoothly from child stardom to adult stardom. He continues to be in demand to this day.

He had a few small roles in his preteen years, but it was his role on "Everybody Hates Chris," which he landed when he was 13, that brought Williams to public attention.

The critically acclaimed series ran for four seasons on UPN and later the CW, ending in 2009. After that, he took on a few small supporting roles here and there before having a big 2012, showing up on the silver screen in "Peeples," produced by hitmaker extraordinaire Tyler Perry ("Diary of a Mad Black Woman," 2005), and toplining the Disney Channel original film "Let It Shine."

He appeared two years later in the big-screen indie phenomenon "Dear White People" (2014), and later took on a different role in the Netflix series adaptation. And in 2019 he had a leading role in the short-lived ABC action series "Whiskey Cavalier."

That more or less brings us up to today, when you can catch him starring in the Emmy-winning ABC sitcom "Abbott Elementary."

And all that's just skimming the surface. Williams has had an incredibly busy decade-and-a-bit since "Everybody Hates Chris" ended, managing to survive the child-star curse.
