Very soon, actually. The beloved TNT buddy-cop dramedy will premiere its sixth season Tuesday, June 16.

The series has been a dependable hit for TNT. It was the No. 1 show on basic cable last season, and has ranked in the top 5 cable shows for five straight years.

If the ratings stay that good, there's no telling how long the show could last. Especially since it's still getting new source material.

The show is based on a book series by mystery author Tess Gerritsen. She started the series back in 2001 with the novel "The Surgeon," but has continued ever since. This past December, Gerritsen released the 11th book, "Die Again."

This, of course, makes it part of a long-standing tradition of mystery books turned into TV shows. Agatha Christie's titles have been filling airtime for decades, of course, but more recently shows such as "Bones," "Dexter" and, of course, "Rizzoli & Isles" have picked up that torch.

But the TNT show's success isn't all from the books. Most fans trace their love of the show to the chemistry between the show's two lead actresses, Angie Harmon (as Det. Jane Rizzoli) and Sasha Alexander (as Dr. Maura Isles).
