Chrissy Teigen and Ludacris host the 2015 Billboard Music Awards

Top of the charts: Music awards shows! Love them or hate them, there's no denying that they have the power to drive sales, to help newer artists break into the spotlight and to lend topics to water cooler conversation discussions for days to come.

After a four-year hiatus, the Billboard Music Awards returned in 2011, and they're still going strong today. This year's ceremony will be held Sunday, May 17, in beautiful Las Vegas and televised live on ABC.

Returning as co-host for the second consecutive year is hip-hop artist and rapper Ludacris, who will be joined this time by model and television host Chrissy Teigen.

Ludacris couldn't be more qualified to host a music awards ceremony -- after all, he's an icon of the industry. The 37-year-old has stirred controversy over the years among some groups with his explicit lyrics, but the numbers don't lie: he's been nominated for 17 Grammys, winning three of them, and had four albums hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts.

Teigen has been seen modeling in the pages of "Sports Illustrated," "Cosmopolitan" and in advertising campaigns for companies as diverse as Nike, Olay and Gillette. She's definitely at home in front of TV cameras, too; she's currently the co-host of Spike's "Lip Sync Battle," which was renewed for a second season last month.

With big names such as Kelly Clarkson, Sam Smith, John Legend and Fall Out Boy all lined up to perform, the 2015 Billboard Music Awards are shaping up to be a fun night. The awards show will be broadcast live Sunday, May 17, on ABC.

The horror!: Fox is cooking up something terrifying. "Scream Queens," a new horror-comedy series from the same trio that created "Glee," is currently in production, with a September premiere date being eyed.

Featuring an ensemble cast of popular actors, "Scream Queens" will follow the members of a college sorority who are being picked off one by one by a mysterious figure called the Red Devil.

With one character biting the bullet each week, the clues will start to pile up as time goes on, hopefully giving the show that must-watch factor that keeps audiences tuning in from week to week.

If that sounds like a pretty cool concept, then the list of big-name actors who will be starring should make it sound even more chilling. Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween," 1978), Lea Michele ("Glee"), Emma Roberts ("American Horror Story"), Keke Palmer ("Winx Club: Beyond Believix"), Oliver Hudson ("Rules of Engagement") and Abigail Breslin ("Little Miss Sunshine," 2006) will all be starring.

Of course, the big question is: who will last to the end of the season? Although the series is being billed as an anthology, the plan isn't to reset with an entirely new story every season, à la "American Horror Story." Instead, whoever survives the first season will move on to the second season, and so on.

It's an intriguing concept, bringing the tension of a good slasher flick to a weekly TV series. With a cast of well-known actors to boot, "Scream Queens" could end up being terrifyingly entertaining. It's due to premiere as part of Fox's fall lineup in September.

Heavenly television: Its first season may have been met with mixed reviews, but that didn't stop "Dominion" from drawing enough of an audience to earn itself a second season. It ended up being cable's top scripted program in its time-slot among the coveted 18 to 49 demographic.

The Syfy show about angels and humankind battling each other after God's disappearance is loosely based on the 2010 film "Legion" and is currently filming its sophomore season in South Africa in anticipation of a release this summer.

Of course, a new season will bring some new characters, and that means a lot of new actors are joining the cast on a recurring basis.

Nic Bishop will be recognizable for his roles in "Covert Affairs," "Body of Proof" and "Home and Away." He'll be portraying Gates, the military genius who was instrumental in building one of humanity's last strongholds on Earth.

English actress Christina Chong will play a fierce and scrappy rebel. She was seen last year in Fox's "24: Live Another Day" and will also appear in this year's "Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens."

Simon Merrells starred in the critically acclaimed "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and in the children's TV series "The Tomorrow People." In "Dominion," he'll be playing the leader of New Delphi, a human fortress with a dark secret lurking beneath the surface.

With the excellent cast of the first season returning, "Dominion's" second season will be looking to keep pulling in the high number of viewers, and maybe even get more critics on side, too. Watch for it this summer on Syfy.
