Papal television: A hit TV series from across the pond is finally coming stateside. "The Young Pope" premiered to great fanfare throughout Europe late last year, and the joint Italian-Spanish-French production has found a home in North America on HBO, with its much-anticipated premiere airing Sunday, Jan. 15, on the cabler.

The 10-episode first season revolves around the plotting, machinations and shifting loyalties going on behind the scenes during the selection of a new pope.

Jude Law ("Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," 2011) stars as Lenny Belardo, the charismatic and young Archbishop of New York, who is elected to the position of the Bishop of Rome and the leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.

Starring alongside Law is Diane Keaton ("The Godfather," 1972) as Sister Mary, the nun who raised the young Belardo in an orphanage, and who is appointed by the new pope to be his personal secretary.

When an American is selected for the first time to lead the world's many Catholic believers, it's expected that the newly named Pope Pius XIII will continue the liberal policies of his predecessor. The Vatican is shocked, though, when their new leader goes in the opposite direction, rejecting the push towards modernization.

"The Young Pope's" cast includes some formidable actors from across Europe and America. Silvio Orlando ("The Caiman," 2006), Javier Cámara ("Talk to Her," 2002), Scott Shepherd ("Bridge of Spies," 2015), Cécile De France ("Around the World in 80 Days," 2004) and Ludivine Sagnier ("The Devil's Double," 2011) all star alongside Law and Keaton.

The 10-episode series has already premiered to audience and critical acclaim in Italy, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sweden, France and many other European countries. With a second season already in the works, and with Law's performance in particular drawing critical praise, it's a good time for "The Young Pope" to finally arrive on this side of the pond.

"The Young Pope" premieres Sunday, Jan. 15, on HBO.

ShondaLand shakeup: New faces are coming to ShondaLand, but don't worry, there's no scandal going on here. "Scandal," "How to Get Away With Murder" and "Grey's Anatomy" all return to ABC with new seasons Thursday, Jan. 19, and "Scandal" has a few new actors lined up to help ring in the new year's new season.

Jessalyn Gilsig ("Glee") replaces Joelle Carter ("Justified"), who starred in several episodes last season as Jake's (Scott Foley, "Felicity") wife, Vanessa.

Carter, whose Vanessa was introduced in the last few episodes of season 5, was unable to return to the role after committing to a regular role in NBC's "Chicago Justice."

Gilsig isn't the only new face appearing in this season of Scandal; Zoe Perry is also joining the cast, although her face might be a more familiar one for loyal ShondaLand watchers.

Perry has previously appeared as a guest star in "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice," but she has even more of a connection to "Scandal" than just a few one-off roles. She's the daughter of "Scandal" star Jeff Perry ("Nash Bridges"), who plays Cyrus in the award-winning drama.

Her list of TV credits may be a bit thin, but the younger Perry is no acting lightweight. She's an accomplished theater actress, recently appearing alongside her father in the classic play "Anna Christie."

"Scandal" is just one of the three hit dramas from ShondaLand premiering new seasons back-to-back-to-back Thursday, Jan. 19, on ABC.

It's your choice: The nominees are in, the votes are tallied and the stars are waiting with bated breath. The People's Choice Awards 2017 trophies are ready to be handed out Wednesday, Jan. 18, on CBS.

The People's Choice Awards, which has categories from all genres of popular culture including television, movies and music, are being given out in a live ceremony, and the winners are selected based on millions of votes collected online.

With a whopping 64 categories, it can be tricky to settle on which ones to watch out for, but this year there are two names that stand out. With nominations in three categories, Ellen DeGeneres ("Finding Dory," 2016) has a good shot at taking home at least one award. If she does, she'll become the most decorated People's Choice Award winner ever.

The artist with the most nominations, though, is actor Kevin Hart ("Ride Along," 2014), with five nominations spread across various categories. Singer Rihanna and rapper Drake, though, are nipping at his heels with four nominations each.

Unlike other awards shows, the People's Choice Awards nominees and winners are picked by ordinary people voting online in the weeks leading up to the big event. With millions and millions of votes cast, the People's Choice Awards is a great indication of which movies, music and TV shows people actually love. You can catch it Wednesday, Jan. 18, on CBS.
